FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT

Disability Football

EPCP SPURS was set up by Emerson Park School in the London Borough of Havering in September 2004.  Six players attended the first meeting with Pat Kielty from Essex FA providing the coaching.  Our numbers for coaching sessions are regularly in the high teens & we are now open to players aged from 7 to 18.

Tottenham Hotspur are firmly established as our coaching partners, with Tony Millard and Paul Vickery providing coaching sessions at Emerson Park School in Hornchurch.  Our link to Tottenham brings many benefits in addition to the excellent coaching.  We have played in the indoor training facility at White Hart Lane and the hospitality area was the venue for our end of season club night.

The end of last season was a busy one, three of the players were guests at the official opening of the Sports College by Sir Trevor Brooking, ex-West Ham and England and now Director of Football Development at the FA.

Sir Trevor was also on hand at the ‘Grassroots Football Show’ held at the ExCel exhibition centre in London’s Docklands.  The squad were there to take part in a coaching session and played in the Tottenham kit.

We gained our first commercial sponsor in July when the ‘Fishtank’ nightclub in Southsea put on a tribute night in honour of Spurs fan and DJ Fat Bob Harley who sadly passed away earlier in the year.

We hope that we can live up to the generosity of all of the folk who gave their time and services for free for a memorable evening in the Wedgewood Rooms, South Parade Pier.

Building up membership was the main part of our first season, although we were able to take part in our first tournament, the Ability Counts competition in Regent’s Park.  Our second season started at Cleves School in Newham where we provided a coaching session as part of Newham Primary Care Trust’s Newham Champions Day, to celebrate what disabled children can do.

Since joining us, several of the club members have discovered a talent for athletics, gaining medals in national athletics championships.  The club are now part of the Jack Petchey Awards Scheme.

It is much easier to find out about the club, now that we have our own web-site – www.epcpspurs.co.uk    If you would like to play, or feel that you could contribute to the running of the club, contact Ian Walter at 01708 475285 or via our web-site.

Download a registration form from our web-site and join us at our next meeting.
