Wingate and Finchley FC were last week pleased to announce the signings of highly experienced players Steve Wales and Shane Gore. Wales, 33, is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, and will add to the fantastic experienced playing staff brought in to compliment their young squad, while Gore, 34, is a goalkeeper who has previously won the Conference National.

Steve Wales has vast past experience including clubs such as St. Albans City, Chesham United, Hemel Hempstead Town, Boreham Wood, Cambridge City and AFC Wimbledon. Wingate manager Keith Rowland said, “A naturally fit player, Steve was an obvious fit for the club and we are excited to have him at the club.”

Shane Gore began his career at Wimbledon, making his only appearance against Grimsby Town. In the 2003-04 season, Gore was sent on a one-month loan to non-league St Albans City, playing once; a one-month loan to Peterborough United followed, then finally to Conference National side Barnet on a season-long loan where he made a successful 28 league appearances, before signing for Barnet permanently. He also played for Stevenage and Maidenhead and in the summer of 2009, Gore was offered a trial by Conference side Luton Town by manager Mick Harford, who was a coach at Wimbledon at the time Gore was on the fringes of the first-team. He made his debut for Luton in the FA Cup in a 3-3 draw with Rochdale. In the Summer of 2010, he signed for Chesham United of the Southern Premier League where he amassed 262 appearances. In August 2015, Gore then signed on dual-registration with Conference South side Wealdstone.

Wingate and Finchley are also celebrating the announcement by their partners Hadley Wood Sports Trust of the opening of a new community football facility from September for the 2016-17 season in Barnet Lane, EN5. The facility will house a 4G full size floodlit astroturf pitch, a grass pitch and a pavilion with changing rooms. In conjunction with the Football Foundation, the London Marathon Trust and Sport England, the Charity's Trustees have worked tirelessly over several years to get the project off the ground in order to provide local clubs and individuals with the opportunity to train and play at a state of the art football facility.

The facility will house an educational scheme offering young people the opportunity to play football whilst furthering their education, and will also increase participation in sport in the local area. Peter Renkin, one of the Trustees of the Charity said, "The facility satisfies a great need in the area to offer local football clubs and the wider community access to participate in sport and physical activity. We also expect to increase the number of youths playing football as there are many clubs in the local area who do not have sufficient facilities to train and therefore cannot grow in numbers."
