Rafferty Celebrates Goals4Girls Successes

Monday 11th July 2016 saw the first Goals4Girls annual awards evening at Royal Docks Community School.

Goals4Girls is a football development programme that works with young women aged 11-16. The programme aims to break down barriers and reduce inactivity amongst young women in sport, by raising the aspirations, self-confidence, self-esteem and mind sets of young women inspiring them to set and achieve their goals.

The Football development programme provides football coaching, player development pathways, coaching qualifications, workshops, inspirational seminars, trips and mentoring to girls in and around East London. Being a female only development programme, they pride themselves on having the ability to work with a diverse selection of young women, from all cultures, backgrounds & abilities. G4G aims to encourage every individual they work with to challenge themselves in a safe environment.

This, the first awards evening for the programme, was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all the young women on the programme. England Lioness and Chelsea Ladies FC star Claire Rafferty was in attendance to present awards and meet the girls involved with the G4G programme.

Francesca Brown (Managing Director & CEO of Goals4Girls) said: ‘The Goals4Girls event was truly inspiring, watching a vision become a reality and celebrating the girls’ successes was simply fascinating. A single event can awaken the self-belief in many which was once unknown, and through Claire attending she has given them the hope that anything is possible.’

Katie Phillipson (London FA FDO) added: ‘The evening was a great way to celebrate all of the girls’ achievements from the past year. To hear how the programme has impacted on the young women at Royal Docks Community School proves the programme’s success in using football as a catalyst to develop them as young footballers and individuals. Well done to Francesca and all of the girls involved with the programme, and thank you to Claire for supporting the evening.’

Goals4Girls has engaged with over 300+ young women since launching in 2013. The programme is currently running in The Royal Docks Community School, working closely with London Youth, Sports England, Prince’s Trust, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies, The FA, and London FA.
