London FA Awards Evening

The London FA held their 4th Annual Awards Evening on Wed 25 Nov 2009 at Leyton Orient Football Club.

The Presentation is to recognise the hard work of Clubs, Volunteers and London FA partners across London.

Start of the Night – Josie Clifford (County Development Manager opens the evening)

The event included presentations to Charter Standard clubs for various awards including Development Club of the Year, Administrator and Coach of the year.  Additionally David Wolff, Vice-Chairman and Cyril Rebak, Life Member of the London FA were also present on the night.

2 of the 4 Charter Standard Clubs also won FA Regional Awards, beating clubs from Middlesex, The armed Forces FA and The Amateur Football Alliance to the prestigious honour.

There were 8 workforce winners, with Ian Wood winning the U18s category. “It’s brilliant to get this award, I’m over the moon” said the young coach. “It helps to increase your confidence when coaching and I’m now looking forward to doing my Level One coaching badge”.

This was the second time the female awards have been presented, with Diane Culligan being the proud recipient of Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Football.  Diane, who is connected to Hampstead Ladies and a qualified referee, also received a signed England Ladies shirt. “Its lovely to receive this award from the London FA” said Diane.  When asked if she thought female football could carry progressing, she replied “There are lots of girls wanting to play and if we put our heads together and work together then it will happen”.

In addition, Special Partners of the Year were presented by the London FA Development Team to the surprised Derek Bennett – Senior Football Development Officer at Tower Hamlets and Sarah Mawle – Community Programme Manager, London.

The evening was a huge success, and the London FA Development team would like to extend their thanks to Leyton Orient Football Club and all those involved in the evening.
