RA-FA is the formal partnership for co-operation and joint action between The Referees’ Association and the Football Association. The intention is to bring together the best of the RA and the FA for the benefit of all referees, and especially those at grassroots level, whilst recognising the vital, independent role of each organisation. The prime focus of the joint venture is on recruiting, retaining, developing and supporting referees throughout the country, with the aim of making a major contribution to raising retention rates and increasing the number of referees. The Football Association Match Officials Association (“FAMOA”) has been absorbed into RA-FA.

Referees will automatically become associate members of the RA, free of charge, once they have registered with a County FA. As such, they will receive (i) invitations to RA-FA training events, (ii) the “Refereeing” magazine published jointly by the RA and by the FA and (iii) information about local RA society meetings. Dual RA and FA logos will be used at RA-FA events: there will be no separate RA-FA badge.

Associate members of the RA can upgrade to full membership of the RA by joining a local referees’ society. Typically, the annual fee payable to join a local society will be around £30 to £35.
