REFEREE'S

Referees Societies

Football Association Match Officials Association ("FAMOA")

All registered referees, FA qualified instructors and registered assessors are automatically members of FAMOA, which was established by The Football Association so that it could communicate directly with its referees.

The “Welcome Pack” handed to trainee referees on the beginner’s course includes, at the back of a leaflet entitled “Welcome to Refereeing”, an application form for a Record of Achievement. That form should be completed as the new official referees his or her first six 11-a-side games and then sent to the London FA.

On receipt of the completed form and once the new referee has attended the three hour “Next Steps Workshop” required to complete the fifth and final module of the beginner’s course, the London FA will arrange for the FA to issue:-
a FAMOA Referee’s Badge (commonly known as a “Three Lions” Badge);
a refund of the training course fee; and
a Record of Achievement, contained in a wallet in which certificates etc. issued during a referee’s career can be kept.

An incentive scheme is also operated by FAMOA, under which free refereeing kit, FA products, etc., are available as a reward for refereeing games, attending meetings, etc. The application form for a Record of Achievement includes a box to be ticked by anyone wishing to join the incentive scheme.

All members of FAMOA receive occasional newsletters and “Refereeing” magazines directly from it.

Each County FA organises one meeting a year on behalf of FAMOA, to which all members are invited: London FA FAMOA meetings have so far been held at Arsenal FC, West Ham United FC and Fulham FC, with the next one being planned for Charlton Athletic FC.

If you have any queries about FAMOA, please e-mail The Football Association at famoa@thefa.com or telephone it on 020 7745 4651.

Local Referees’ Societies
The London FA encourages all its referees also to join a local referees' society and to attend its meetings as frequently as possible. Membership of a local referees' society will include membership of The Referees' Association of England, the national body representing the interests of referees. The following further benefits are automatically included in membership of the Referees’ Association of England:-
Personal accident and loss of equipment insurance cover;
The right to attend a National Conference, at which there will be the opportunity to be trained by, meet and mix with Premiership referees;
The entitlement to receive free of charge copies of the “Refereeing” newsletter published jointly by FAMOA and by the RAE;
The right to buy tickets to the Eve-of-Final Rally, which is a gathering attended by the FA Cup Final match officials;
A service for the sale of refereeing kit and equipment at low prices, which is available online and by letter or telephone;
