Women's Beginners Festival Hit
in Wandsworth |
London FA and NACRO
hosted their second Women’s Beginner’s tournament at the Wandle Rec in Wandsworth. |
There were10 teams
participating on the day, each entering teams of up to 9 women. The women taking part came
from varying backgrounds including mothers, grandparents and
students. It was a great demonstration of how much fun it can be
being part of a team no matter what your age. |
Women from the LFA
beginner’s session had the chance to enter a team and they all said
that the event provided them with an opportunity to see how far they
had come from not kicking a ball at all or not playing in years to
participating in a tournament. |
Women participating in the
event said that “It’s great to have the opportunity to get together
and play again against other teams, and put into practise what we
work on each week.”
Nicola from the London FA Archbishop Sumner session has said that
“She really enjoys participating in the sessions and that it
provides her with a chance to relax and keep fit.”
Paul Davis from NACRO said “These kinds of events are important to
highlight the level of women wanting to take part in football. Today
there has been an excellent show of sportsmanship and we are looking
forward to the next event in 2010.” |

The final saw a head to head
show down with both the Calloway teams getting through and it was a
close final but the winning trophy went to Calloway Athletic B Team.
Louisa Shaw was awarded the sportsmanship award on the day and Caz
Pennifold from Calloway Athletic was awarded the player of the
tournament. |
Throughout the day there was
a great level of professionalism and sportsmanship shown from all
teams participating and we would like to thank the referee’s for
their sterling performances on the day. |
