Female
Refereeing in London |

Females in London are
getting the opportunity to become qualified referees thanks to a
female only referee course that has been organised in the capital.
London FA are running a course at London Marathon Playing Fields,
Shooters Hill Road, Greenwich, SE18 4LT which starts on Saturday 2nd
October 2010 and continues on 9th & 16th October.
Emma Barnes, Women & Girls Development Officer for South London said
“It is great to be able to offer females an alternative way to get
involved in football, and it’s also a good way for coaches and
players to expand their knowledge’’
This course links in well with the Female Officials Programme which
was launched in November 2008 in conjunction with Arsenal Centre of
Excellence. Any referees that show potential from the course will be
put forward to take part in this programme which provides mentoring
from experienced referees and the opportunity to officiate within
the Arsenal Centre of Excellence programme. As part of this
programme there are quarterly Female Referee Groups where female
referees at any level can attend to get advice and take part in
workshops and listen to different speakers.
Emma also adds, ‘’It is really key that we can now offer female
referees support from the word go, and that there are opportunities
for them to develop with their refereeing at all levels’’
Anyone interested in attending the course or finding out more about
the Female Officials Programme should contact Emma at
