Football needs referees at all levels – from youth mini soccer games to the professional game.
ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS?
All candidates must be aged at least 14 years old before you qualify.
WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?
The course consists of practical and theoretical training over three days with an assessment on the final day. For more details please click here.
Important - Please note:
In order to complete the basic refereeing course candidates must have completed the 'Safeguarding Children' best practice workshop. To sign up for the 'Safeguarding Children' workshop please click here.
Candidates aged 14 or 15 at the date of Unit 2 will not need to attend the workshop. Instead these candidates are required to complete a check sheet after viewing an online 'Safeguarding Children Guide'. On completion a certificate will be issued which must be presented to the course tutor.
All candidates aged 16 or over at the date of Unit 2 must also apply during the course for a 'Criminal Records Check'. For more details please click here.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I GET?
On satisfactory completion of Unit 4, candidates will be registered as a Level 9 (Trainee) Referee and will receive a London FA Referee certificate.
On satisfactory completion of Unit 6 (Laws of the Game Exam), candidates will be promoted to Level 7 (Junior County) Referee, unless aged 14 or 15, when they will be registered as a Level 8 (Youth) Referee.
All candidates will receive a London FA Referee certificate and London FA Referee badge.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The fee for all candidates is £165.00.
Anyone aged 16 or over will need to complete a Criminal Records Check which costs an additional £10.
WHAT DOES THE FEE COVER?
The fee includes the cost of providing candidates with the following:
- A copy of 'The Laws of the Game' booklet
- A 'Learn the Laws' CD-ROM
- Pre-course study book
- Venue hire
- Tutor costs
- Essential referee equipment including; assistant flags, red and yellow cards, a match day wallet, whistle, lanyard
- Safeguarding children awareness training
WHAT HELP WILL I RECEIVE WHEN I HAVE QUALIFIED?
A mentor will be assigned to you offering support after qualifying if you require one.
Links with the youth academies from professional clubs in our area including Arsenal FC, Charlton Athletic FC, Leyton Orient FC, Millwall FC, Tottenham Ladies Reserves and AFC Wimbledon Academy and Ladies.
Referee groups that arrange training including fitness training.
Access to the London FA Mastermind group (monthly meetings for referees).
