Asian Star 2019
Stamford Bridge - Saturday 18th May
The Chelsea Foundation is pleased to announce that their award winning Asian Star event returns to Stamford Bridge this May.
The event, which is designed to give a much-needed boost to Asian participation at all levels of the game will return on Saturday 18 May.
The initiative, the first of its kind undertaken by a professional football club, was recognised with the ‘Special Recognition’ Award at the Asian Football Awards in November 2017, available for both girls and boys, aged 9 to 12 with applications now open.
It is fun, engaging and free, and players who excel on the day will be offered a year-long placement at one of our Football Development Centres, while girls who impress will be invited for a trial at our Girls Regional Talent Centre.
Last year’s event was attended by Carlo Cudicini, who combines his first-team assistant position with an ambassadorial role at the club, and the Italian praised the legacy and impact of Asian Star.
He said: ‘It is a great event put on by the fantastic coaches at the Chelsea Foundation. As soon as you arrive you see so many smiles from the young players involved and that is down to the coaches.
‘The Foundation and club work hard to support the community and Asian Star is an example of that. It seems to get bigger and better each year and to see girls involved is great for the club.’
Asian Star was launched in 2009 and has grown in size ever since, attracting almost 400 young players and their parents to Stamford Bridge last year, where they competed in a series of matches and skills sessions. The winners in each age group were all invited to join the Chelsea Foundation’s Football Development Centres.
Chelsea will also be inviting managers, coaches and scouts from clubs at all levels of the game to identify talented youngsters and we will work closely with the Football Association and London FA on the day, with workshops and useful information available to parents.
