London FA Youth Council have worked with Wapping Youth, discussing their commitment to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Our London FA Youth Council have worked with Wapping Youth, discussing their commitment to the Black Lives Matter movement and examining its impact in grassroots youth football.

The Youth Council chair, Nayim Ahmed, explains the importance of making this commitment.

“As one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world, the London FA take pride in celebrating culture and heritage," he said. "We visited Wapping Youth FC and had a look at how they have responded to recent events globally and their take on Black History Month back in October.

“Wapping Youth FC have been running from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets since 2013. Youth deprivation in BAME communities is very much on the agenda. As a Youth Counciller, I wanted to take a look at what grassroots organisations are doing to have a positive impact.”

Aquila Burgess, Football Development Manager and organiser of the Youth Council, added: “We are incredibly proud of the work our Youth Council and Wapping Youth are doing to tackle discrimination and highlighting the Black Lives Matter movement.

Over the coming months, our Youth Council have some exciting plans looking at how to tackle discrimination by helping to provide a youth perspective and increasing the need for equality and diversity across our clubs”.
