Grassroots Heroes Awards 2023 - Grassroots League of the Year

Girls Super League have been announced as our first Grassroots Heroes 2023 Award Winner.

Throughout November, London FA will be announcing their Grassroots Heroes 2023 Award Winners. First up, London FA are proud to announce that Girls Super League have been awarded Grassroots League of the Year 2023!

grfa girls super leagueGirls Super League launched in September 2021. Now in its third season, they have over 90 teams competing across their North, South and West London leagues. They have created a space dedicated to girls’ football which promotes inclusivity and positively, making sure competitive football is accessible to all. By hosting at a central venue, with highly qualified referee, match balls, and equipment, all clubs need to do is show up and play. Over 500 girls aged 8 to 16 are taking part in regular, competitive football who may not have been able to participate before.

The league focus on creating positive role models for the girls playing, including female staff, coaches, referees, and volunteers, showing girls the multiple pathways available to them within football. The GSL offers workshops to upskill coaches and offer newly qualified referees to gain experience and confidence, even working with London FA to host a female only referee course.

Girls Super League not only goes above and beyond to support girls in their development as athletes and individuals, but also to support coaches and community leaders, enabling them to better serve the girls in their community. The league has worked with the likes of Nike, Football Beyond Boarders to offer a variety of experiences such as workshops with WSL legends. The league has also worked to educate young girls in how menstrual cycles impact young athletes, offering free period products and participating in a Sports Bra Roadshow to provide education on how to find the correct fit for a sports bra and educate on body image and mental health.

Congratulations to Maya and the team at Girls Super League!
