London FA launch new Sunday Cup
London FA are proud to announce the launch of a new Sunday Cup to join our cups and competitions offer for the 2024/25 season.
The idea of a new Sunday Cup was first suggested to Cups and Competitions Officer Jamaal Horne and Cups Committee Chair Ian Wallis when representatives from the Southern Sunday Football League committee met with them last season, after discussions between Southern Sunday Football League, Barnet Sunday Football League and Woolwich & Eltham Sunday Alliance concluded the need for an additional Sunday Cup.
The strong working relationship between the three leagues throughout the season has been core to the proposal, and subsequent approval, of this additional Sunday cup as they have continuously worked together to recognise the need within Sunday League football in London.
Graham Rodber (Southern Sunday), John Eager (Barnet Sunday) and Jason Verrillo (Woolwich & Eltham Sunday) said: "The new competition reflects the growth of London Sunday leagues over the past 10 years, and it gives players from lower divisions across the respective leagues the opportunity to play in a competitive County Cup Competition and possibly reach the final. In addition, the new competition will add balance to the Junior Cup draw.
"This is such a positive step for London football. Our clubs are very happy to see the introduction of this competition."
London FA Cups Competitions Committee Chair Ian Wallis added: "The London FA Cup Competitions Committee are delighted to accept the proposal from our three adult Sunday Leagues, to set up a new competition to bring greater balance and variation to the teams competing in our Junior Cup competitions.
"We were very encouraged to see the three leagues working so closely together and collaborating like this, for the benefit of grassroots football in London. These three leagues have been very successful in growing the opportunities they provide to their local communities to play football and we hope that this new competition proves popular with our member clubs. This is great example of London’s leagues working in partnership with its County FA."
London FA look forward to the addition to our 32 cup competitions offer and to better support the growing need for representative cup competitions across all levels of London football.
